Helping a leading edtech launch 40 cities and build senior management layer
Introduction

The client was a fast-growing EdTech startup that offers online learning solutions for K-12 students.

With a successful presence in several cities, the client aimed to expand their reach and launch their services in 40 new cities across the country to cater to a broader audience of students and educators.

They also wanted to build their senior management team before the next round of funding due in less than a year

Problem Statement

Our client wanted to launch operations in small cities and hire candidates with relevant industry experience. These small cities generally had dearth of such talent.

For senior management layer, they wanted to onboard talent from top consulting firms and startups in India who would have graduated  from top business schools or IITs

Analysis

Geographic Expansion: Scaling operations and establishing a presence in multiple new cities simultaneously also meant a lot of agility was required in terms of optimizing the interviewing process

Time Constraints: The client had aggressive timelines for the launch and required expedited recruitment and onboarding processes to meet their deadlines.

Quality Assurance: Ensuring consistency in service quality and customer experience across all new locations while scaling rapidly posed a challenge.

Attraction for senior management layer: Our client did not want to compromise on the persona of senior management professionals coming in. It meant a lot of effort had to be put in at initial talent attraction stages.

Solution Implementation

Bringing local talent back: Given the 40 cities our client wanted to launch in were mostly small towns, we followed an approach of attracting talent back to or closer to their hometowns

Change in persona: We were able to with some experimentation create a buy in of diversifying the talent pool by following an approach of skill based hiring from other startups for extremely remote locations

Leadership Partnering for building senior management layer: We partnered with the founders and leadership team to communicate the narrative using different channels for attracting high quality talent for senior management layer

Impact

Rapid Expansion: We supported the client in launching their services in 40 new cities within the specified timeframe, enabling them to expand their geographic footprint and reach a broader audience of students and educators.

Talent Acquisition Success: We helped the client recruit and onboard a diverse team of professionals in education, sales, marketing, and customer support in each new city, ensuring operational readiness and service delivery excellence.

Senior Management Layer: We were able to onboard 25 critical hires from top pedigree and companies.
