Introduction

Our client is one of the leading consumer tech businesses in India. They wanted to scale up the engineering team and add close to 150-180 people in a 12-18 months. 

Problem Statement

Our client was operating in a very competitive talent market during 2021-22 and wanted to hire technology talent across the board across backend, frontend, data engineering, data science skill sets.

The talent market was such that it was common for candidates to hold multiple offers and re-negotiate.

The offer dropout % was more than 50% on average. There was desire to maintain a high standard of talent while rapidly expanding the team.

Analysis

We analyzed the overall situation and understood the following:

  1. Our client though wasn’t paying at the highest levels but had a very strong employer brand and history of giving career path to a large number of its employees   
  2. The compensation levels in the market were unsustainable and it was a bubble waiting to burst.      
  3. We needed to shorten the hiring cycle. There was a need in the market to act fast especially on candidates who were immediate joiners      
  4. Despite whatever we could do , there would have been high offer drop outs.

We partnered with the engineering leadership at our client and followed a data driven approach to pre-empt and create a hiring funnel bound to ensure success. We reverse engineered and preempted the number of profiles needed at the top of the funnel. We conducted 34 hiring drives in a span of a year and mostly focused on immediate joiners.

Persona Targeting

We targeted individuals who had stable profiles, focused on diversity talent and also on engineers wanting to relocate to North India. 

Streamlined Screening Process:

We implemented a rigorous screening process to evaluate candidates' technical skills, experience, and cultural fit. This included technical assessments, coding challenges, and behavioral interviews conducted by our team of technical recruiters.
